| Frank Merrill first came to radio in 1934 as a 15 minute serial starring Don Briggs. The sponsor was Dr West's Toothpaste. Incidentally, you can still find Dr West toothbrushes at the store. Harlow Wilcox was the announcer. According to John Dunning, radio historian, only one recording of this early show survived. Don Briggs later starred as Merriwell in a 15 cfhapter serial. In photographs from the serial, he looked like the ideal college gridiron hero. Frank Merrill was the Jack Armstrong of the horse and buggy era. |
