Rest in peace Andy Griffith Very Happy

I always enjoyed Andy Griffith's narration in the Sears Radio Theater program.

My dad and I watched many episodes of "The Andy Griffith Show" together when I was a kid. He was great.

I used to live in Andy's hometown of Mount Airy, N.C., which was much of the inspiration for the fictional town of Mayberry, RFD. My ex-father-in-law grew up with Andy, but he never had much to say about him. Then again, he didn't have much to day about most things.

I saw Andy when he came back to Mt. Airy for the first time in almost 40 years (some people say he made covert visits from time to time to see friends without making public appearances) when they named a stretch of U.S. Hwy. 52 for him. He spoke in front of City Hall for about half an hour about growing up in Mount Airy, his career as an entertainer, etc. I didn't get to actually meet him or shake his hand or anything like that, but it was still a pretty cool event.

Hard to believe we lost both Goober (George Lindsay) and Andy within two months of each other.
