Inspector Cromwell

Inspector Cromwell solves crimes with the improbable assistance of Mother Superior Helen of the convent of "Our Lady of Holy Agony." As the series progresses, the Inspector and the Mother Superior get to know each other and Inspector Cromwell finds himself in the hopeless situation of falling in love with someone who has eschewed physical love and embraces celibacy.

Indeed, in the first episode, one of constables dares to describe Mother Helen as "tasty" and wonders whether she is a blond. Meanwhile, Mother Helen refers to email addresses and mobiles (English for "cell phones"), while Inspector Cromwell has neither a mobile nor an email address.

The stories have humorous twists and the plots all have some tongue-in-cheek tie-in to the Catholic Church and its traditions, whether in the identity of the victim or the motive for the crime.

I searched the web for the author, "Robert Smith," and I learned only that there are a lot of "Robert Smiths," but I could not find anything about this show other than a rather non-communicative BBC link about the broadcasts.

This is a ripping fun listen. I recommend it highly.
