Steptoe and Son

Steptoe and Son was a British sitcom about a Father and Son who run a "rag and bone" business--what Americans would call a junk business. The father is a grimy, dirty-minded, manipulative old curmudgeon, whereas the son aspires to higher things. The conflict between the two is the main source of the comedy and occasional tragedy of the show.

BBC radio show was an adaptation of the BBC television show, which was immensely popular. In addition to a movie, Steptoe and Son spawned spin-offs in several countries, including Sweden; Portugal; South Africa; and the United States, with Redd Foxx starring Sanford and Son.
