Dorothy LamourDorothy Lamour is best-remembered as costar of most of the Road movies, in which she costarred with Bob Hope and Bing Crosby. She started her show business career singing with big bands, then was signed by Paramount Pictures, which starred her in The Jungle Princess opposite Ray Milland. As the "jungle princess," she was costumed in a sarong for the entire film and remained associated in the public mind with a sarong for the rest of her career. During World War II, she earned the honorific, "Bond Bombshell," for her support of drives to sell U. S. War Bonds in support of the war effort. She also made frequent appearances on Armed Forces Radio Service productions to entertain the troops, such as Mail Call and Command Performance. In the 1950s, her movie career started to wane. She moved to Baltimore with her husband and focused primarily on nightclub and stage appearances. She was an occasional guest on television shows during the 1950s and appeared in a few movies, but never returned to the stardom that she enjoyed in the 1940s and early 1950s. The shows in this collection include The Sealtest Variety Hour, which she hosted, as well as guest appearances on other shows. For more information, see the Dorothy Lamour website.
