Jubilee

Jubilee was a half-hour program produced by the Armed Forces Radio service and distributed by transcription to black service members serving abroad. The show was intended as a morale builder and a taste of home.

The shows leaned heavily towards jazz and Dixieland, with short comedy routines. Both black and white guest stars appeared, including Count Basie, Stan Kenton, Ella Mae Morse, The International Sweethearts of Rhythm, and the Delta Rhythm Boys. The show's line-up of regulars, though, leaned heavily towards black performers.

To add a bit of context, when the show's production began in 1942, American forces were segregated (President Truman issued the order to desegregate them in 1948). When production ended in 1953, Jim Crow laws were still in effect and the Supreme Court's ruling on Brown v. Board of Education was a year in the future.
