Sound OffSound Off was an Armed Forces Radio Service music show hosted by Harry von Zell, best remembered as George Burn's long-suffering announcer in The George Burns and Gracy Allen television show. Von Zell counts down the top four songs in "the red, hot, and blue hit parade," as voted by the show's listeners, while tipping his hat to the various armed forces units that voted each week. The songs were a representative sampling of the top pops of the day. Featured performers in this collection include the International Sweethearts of Rhythm, Jo Stafford, and Jimmy Dorsey. I could find little about this show on the internet. A search string including the words "Sound Off" generates just too varied a crop of results; it seems that everyone wants to sound off about something. The show is a fun listen; it's a shame so few episodes seem to have survived. Series description provided by Frank Bell. |
